From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all so much for your generous contributions toward the repair of our historic barn. So far we have $51,460 toward our goal!
Did you know that the barn at Rose Hill Center was built in 1925? That means that it’s almost 100 years old! At that time it was reported to be the biggest barn in Oakland County. Since the barn was purchased for Rose Hill Center, it has housed many different animals: Horses, cattle, lamas, alpaca, pigs, peacocks and even emus! Each of these animals has played a significant role in the healing of many Rose Hill residents. The care they provide for the animals daily has allowed them to build their self-esteem and develop important work skills such as initiative, problem solving and teamwork. Rose Hill also utilizes the therapeutic animal care program to help those recovering from trauma as well as many residents visit the farm after graduating from Rose Hill to see the animals in order to relax in the quiet atmosphere the barn offers.
Keeping the Rose Hill Center barn safe and in good working condition is not only critical to the farm/animal care program, but it’s also important to maintain a barn with such a rich historical value. That’s where YOU can help. The barn roof is in desperate need of repair as it is over 25 years old and the shingles are dry rotted which is causing leaking in many areas. The cost to repair the roof has been estimated to be $80,000. With your support, Rose Hill can continue to care for the animals who are housed there and cultivate life-long well being for the residents who tend to their needs.
The Farm Crew Program, one of the most popular work program choices for
Rose Hill Center residents, takes the goal of providing residents with the
opportunity to participate in activities that give them a sense of meaningful accomplishment to a different level.
Your support will help to keep the Rose Hill Center barn safe and in good working condition. This is not only critical to the farm/animal care program, but it’s also important to maintain a barn with such a rich historical value. With your support, Rose Hill can then continue to care for the animals who are housed there and cultivate life-long well being for the residents who tend to their needs.
Aside from the benefits given to caring for and forming bonds with these
animals, the work also requires residents to learn and practice team building
skills, assets they may not have had previous exposure to or experience with. All of this can result in tremendous healing properties and help residents to place
their own circumstances into perspective.
